Immature Red-tailed Hawk in winter.

This is actually a wild bird, who allowed an incredibly close approach.Of course there was a reason. This unfortunate young bird, even though he looked perfectly healthy had been unable to hunt properly. The Red-tail was emaciated, light as a feather. He allowed me to pick him up bring him to a near-by Ranger station. From there he was quickly transferred to a rehabilitator. Unhappily he had lost too much weight and did not survive.
